Plessy v. Ferguson established "Separate But Equal". I wrote an entire research paper on this topic.

The u.s.supreme court ruling confirming the legal doctrine of "separate but equal" making it possible for school districts to place black children in overcrowded, poorly funded, black-only schools was "Plessy v. Ferguson" of 1896. The doctrine started to be overturned only by 1954, through "Brown v. Board of Education".
