An earthworm tunnel floods during a rainstorm, and the earthworm washes out onto to the grass. Why will the earthworm die if it cannot get back into a tunnel quickly?

A predator could eat it. Living conditions could be rough. Weather could cause a conflict as well.
Predators may consume it. And as moisture is needed for the earthworm to breathe via the skin, without moisture from the soil it may die
