-3 is a negative. 4 + -3 is 1 because u are getting rid of -3

Hey there,
4 + (-3) = 1 because 4 is a whole positive number while -3 is a negative. Each negative cancel positive out so there are 3 negatives and 4 positives so in the end you will have one positive left.
